감사합니다.
저는 짧은 연설문을 준비해 놨었지만 여기 모이신 분들과 모임의 수준을 접하고는 준비한 것에 보태어 다른 무엇인가를 더 준비하지 않으면 안되겠다고 생각하게 되었습니다.

저는 꽤 오랜 시간 동안 실제로 인터넷의 다언어화를 추진하였고 이러한 노력의 성공으로 2003 년 12 월에 WSIS의 마지막 단계에 도달시켜 왔습니다. 또한 인터넷의 다언어화로 선진국과 개발도상국 사이의 다리를 놓는 것뿐 아니라 권리가 박탈된 세계의 사람들을, Kofi Anan (코피 아난) 유엔 사무 총장이 인류의 향상을 위한 노력이라고 부른, 이 움직임에 동참시키는 데 있어서 노력하고 있는 국제 기구의 의장으로서 말씀을 드립니다.

지난 며칠 동안 저는 그동안 넷피아가 쏟아 부은 노력을 돌이켜 보았습니다. 그리고 그 동안의 넷피아의 노력에 비추어 볼 때, 오늘날 한국은 충분히 자랑스러워할 만하다고 생각하게 되었습니다. 그래서 저는 넷피아의 여러분 모두에게 찬사를 보냅니다.

간단히 말하자면 인터넷 접속을 하기 위해 그냥 이렇게 자국 문자를 치는 것의 이점과 그로 인해서 어린이까지도 인터넷을 사용할 수 있게 되었음을 보여 주는 한국의 사례는 자국어가 영어가 아닌, 또한 그로 인해서 실제로 정보화에서 소외된 모든 전 세계의 공동체에서도 되풀이 될 수 있을 것입니다.
그런 이유로 저는 이 회의에 참석을 할 수 있게 된 것을 참으로 영광스럽게 생각합니다.

그리고 앞으로 일어날 엄청난 진보를 기대하며 우리 모두가 함께 힘을 합쳐 일한다면 여러 나라 사이의 정보 기술 격차를 줄이고 사람들에게 도움을 주어 여러 언어가 함께 쓰이는 이 인터넷을 자기 표현의 기본적 권리행사에 이용할 수 있을 것으로 믿습니다.
이 점, 넷피아 여러분 모두에게 감사 드리며 저도 이 일에 다시 매진하고자 합니다.

감사합니다.
I had a short speech prepared but I discovered after I’ve started witnessing the gathering here, and the level of the gathering, that perhaps something else should be in order.

As a chairman of an international organization, where we have actually pushed on the multilingualization of the Internet for a quite a while, and where the success of that actually was reached at the final phase of the WSIS in 2003 in December, where the declaration of the principle included that multilingualization of the Internet is vital for not only the bridging of the divide, but bringing the disenfranchised of the world into this phenomenon, which Secretary-General Kofi Anan called it as ‘an effort for the betterment of mankind.’ From what I’ve seen in the last couple of days, in the efforts of Netpia, I think today, Korea should be proud.

So, I will applaud you all. In simple English, the benefit of just doing this (typing) to access the Internet, and the Korean example of how it starts with children can be replicated all over the world with communities, at communities where the native language is not English and where they have actually been left out.

So in that sense, I am actually honored to have goodness and been part of this conference and I look forward to seeing some great things happening and with all of us working together, bridging the digital divide and helping people and bringing them into this multilingual Internet as fundamental right of their self-expression. Now on this one, I thank you very much and I’m going to try this again, 감사합니다.
